SOLOMON, BELEN SHINE AS NU SWEEPS LA SALLE FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN
National University (NU) carved its name as the team to beat in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament after dealing De La Salle University (DLSU) its first loss, 25-22, 25-15, 25-19, Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs delivered another strong offensive outing with Alyssa Solomon leading the way with 14 points off 10 attacks and four kill blocks.
Mhicaela Belen was also instrumental with 13 points, along with seven excellent digs, and seven excellent receptions while team captain Princess Robles added 12 markers off nine attacks, two blocks, and one ace.
Lams Lamina orchestrated the lethal offensive display with 15 excellent sets as NU delivered 40 attacks in the win.
The Lady Bulldogs fought off a gutsy Lady Spikers in the opener before pulling away by a huge margin in the second set of the match.
Come the third set, La Salle showed more fight led by Jolina Dela Cruz and Alleiah Malaluan but came out short to overcome the streaking NU.
Malaluan ended up as the only Lady Spiker who finished at double-digit with 10 points along with seven excellent digs while Jolina Dela Cruz was held to nine points, converting only six of her 18 attack attempts.
NU looks to extend its winning streak against UE on Thursday while La Salle looks to recover its loss against UST on the same day.
