LYCEUM RALLIES LATE TO WIN OVER ARELLANO
Renzo Navarro's clutch performance helped Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) overcome Arellano University (AU), 70-66, in the NCAA Season 97 men's basketball tournament on Friday at the La Salle Greenhills Gym.
In the final 2:25 of the game, Navarro scored all his 10 points to lift the Pirates from a 10-point deficit.
He sank two triples to give Lyceum the lead at 66-64 with 53.4 seconds remaining.
Arellano’s big man Justin Arana answered back for a 66-all score, but a lay-up from Navarro brought back the lead, 68-66, to Lyceum in the final 30.2 ticks.
Gelo Sablan had a chance to tie the game, but he squandered both of his charity chances. Navarro secured their win with a pair of free throws after Maui Cruz was called for an unsportsmanlike foul with 4.9 seconds left.
Navarro also added seven assists and two rebounds to help the Pirates snap a two-game losing skid and improve to 2-5 this season.
Enoch Valdez led Lyceum with 17 points while Mac Guadana added 12 markers as Arellano dropped to 2-5 for a triple tie with Lyceum and Perpetual Help System Dalta.
