TNT’S KELLY WILLIAM OUT DUE TO BACK INJURY, ‘DOUBTFUL’ FOR GAME 2
After Kelly William helped TNT win Game One of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup Finals last Wednesday, the big man might miss Game Two due to a back injury even after being released from the hospital.
As a result of “severe back spasms,” Williams had to be carried out the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga at the end of their 88-70 Game 1 victory over Magnolia.
“[It happened] when he tried to go up for the dunk, he can hardly walk,” said TNT head coach Chot Reyes after the game.
“I hope he gets better but it doesn’t look to good now.”
And with that, team manager Gabby Cui affirmed that it’s uncertain for the former league MVP to play at DHVSU when the best-of-seven series begins.
“He was released from the hospital, but still needs to see a specialist,” said Cui.
Williams has been an important part of TNT’s success despite missing four semifinal games due to health and safety concerns. Nevertheless, he averaged 9.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists since his return.
