PBA AWAITS GREEN LIGHT FROM PAMPANGA GOVERNOR TO RESUME PH CUP 2021
PBA teams are now ready to kick off the 2021 Philippine Cup after setting hotel bookings and now only waiting for accommodation acceptance as a preparation to return to action foreseeable in Pampanga.
The league decided to halt the Philippine Cup games in Manila from August 1 because the city began its third Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) last August 6, and up until now, there is still no meeting among the authorities on whether to extend the ECQ to August 30 or not.
The last teams who were in action at the Ynares Sports Arena are TNT, Phoenix, Rain or Shine, and Terrafirma.
With this, after eyeing Pampanga as a potential venue to continue the Philippine Cup, agreed upon by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro said that they will talk to Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda once hotel accommodations of the teams were settled.
“As of now, we are waiting for teams to complete their certificates of acceptance from hotels/accommodations where they will stay. Then, will submit [these] to the office of Gov. Pineda,” said Castro.
In the meantime, the league is preparing for the continuation of the planned semi-bubble tournament under a closed-circuit arrangement as the teams will be staying in hotels in Pampanga.
However, Castro said that the final date as to the final decision still depends on the go-signal of Pampanga Governor Pineda.
“Depends on when we will get the green light from Pampanga,” said Castro.
