LARGE GROUP OF PH DELEGATION TO ARRIVE IN HANOI FOR SEAG

The majority of the Philippine contingent for the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games is expected to arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam on Tuesday.

The large wave of athletes was led by multiple medalist and world champion gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, as well as the volleyball team headlined by Alyssa Valdez, Aby Maraño, and Jaja Santiago.

Volleyball has 38 players and officials, while gymnastics has 22 athletes and coaches among the 193 members of the delegation.

Filipino athletes and officials from badminton (19), bodybuilding (13), fencing (28), table tennis (17), tennis (12), athletics (8), wushu (17), and one swimmer, as well as the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) medical team (6) and members of the media (12), left Manila on the same day.

Track and field athletes and officials (50) anchored by EJ Obiena are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, as will entries from esports (25), billiards (10), bowling (13), cycling (16), golf (2), jujitsu (9) and swimming (3).

Athletes from kickboxing, handball, men’s and women’s football, rowing, chess, kurash, pencak silat, men’s 3×3 basketball, women’s basketball, golf, and triathlon/duathlon have already settled in Hanoi and have moved to their respective billeting areas.

The opening ceremony of the biennial sports event will be held on Thursday at the My Dinh National Stadium with Obiena leading the Philippine contingent as the flag bearer.
