RESIDENTS of Cebu City will soon have free internet service.

The Cebu City Council passed an ordinance establishing internet access points funded by the city government.

Under the ordinance authored by Councilor Eduardo Rama, Jr., one internet access point will be established in each barangay to be controlled by the village head.

“All constituents in the barangay  shall be allowed to access free wireless internet connection in the Barangay Internet Access Points which are subject to rules and regulations established by the said barangay,” the ordinance said.

The program aims to provide easy access to information and public services.

It will also help students in their their distance learning.
