LAWMAKER SEEKS PROBE OF ‘SEXIST ATTACK’ ON AIKA ROBREDO
KABATAAN Party-list Rep. Sarah Jane Elago on Tuesday urged the government to probe the spread of fake sex videos of Aika Robredo, daughter of Vice President Leni Robredo.
“Sexist, misogynistic attacks come straight from authoritarian playbooks. Not only do they draw attention away from people’s issues; they also attempt to undermine women’s voices,” said Elago, who is also an advocate of women’s rights.
“Mahalaga ang suporta at pakikiisa sa lahat ng biktima ng sexual harassment at sexist vilification online, lalo na ang mga tinatarget dahil sa kanilang pagtindig para sa karapatan. Hindi tayo ang dapat matakot. Ang mga bastos, abuso, at korap ang dapat matakot at managot!” she added.
The group stressed that the disinformation network required to deliver such an attack narrows down the list of possible culprits.
“This attack on Aika is a desperate move to derail the campaign of the Leni-Kiko tandem through escalated use of disinformation and fake content,” Kabataan Party-list National President Raoul Manuel said.
“We should be alarmed with how the elections has turned into a platform to crucify rather than elevate women,” he added.
