LAWMAKER EYES SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET FOR OT PAY OF TEACHERS

ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro on Friday maintained that teachers who rendered overtime work in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections should be given extra pay.
“Dapat na mabigyan ng overtime pay ang mga gurong nagsilbi lagpas sa itinakdang oras sa nakaraang BSKE. Tiniis uli nila ang hirap, pagod at puyat para magkaroon ng maayos na halalan kaya dapat lang na suklian naman ang kanilang pagpapagal,” Castro said.
The Commission on Elections earlier said that it cannot give teachers who served long hours during the elections because they are not employees of the poll body.
Castro said that they will push for a supplemental budget for the additional compensation of teachers.
“We will propose an investigation of this matter when session resumes next week and see if we can move for a supplemental budget for the overtime pay of teachers,” Castro said.
“Ibatay man natin sa Joint Circular CSC-DBM No.2 Series of 201, walang nakalagay o nakasulat na yung agency na employer lang ang pwedeng mahingan/masingil ng overtime pay,” she added.
Since it was the Comelec which authorized teachers to render overtime services, the Commission should have included the overtime pay of teachers when they proposed their budget for the BSKE, Castro said.
