/ 27 December 2022

A PROFESSOR from the University of Santo Tomas was elected as the president of the Reading Association of the Philippines, a professional association of reading educators, teachers, advocates and parents.

Associate Professor Dr. Rosalyn Mirasol of the Department of English will lead the RAP from 2022-2023 and will represent the country to the International Development in Asia Committee of International Literacy Association.

The RAP is a national affiliate of the ILA based in Delaware, Unites States of America. Its mission is to improve all aspects of the national reading programs and teaching pedagogy through teacher-training, upskilling, and research.

Mirasol was elected during the National Demofest at Sorsogon Provincial Stadium held last month. It was attended by more than 750 teachers from all over the country.

“Mirasol and Dr. Marie Grace Reoperez, RAP Secretary, 2021-2022, were the lead persons in the project proposal “Kape, Basa, Pag-asa,” UST said.

“This project has won a grant funding from the ILA Global Committee. Mirasol is also an academic researcher at the Research Center for Social Sciences and Education,” it added.
