UP APPOINTS NEW FACULTY, STUDENT REGENTS
AN AWARD-WINNING biology professor and entomologist was appointed the representative of the faculty sector in the University of the Philippines’ Board of Regents.
Dr. Aimee Lynn Barrion-Dupo of the Institute of Biological Sciences took her oath of office as the new UP Faculty Regent. She will hold the post until December 31, 2022.
Dr. Barrion-Dupo likened her service to the UP community to a bee.
“Altruismo, o ang pagpapahalaga sa kalagayan ng iba ang katangian ng bubuyog na aking bibitbitin sa paglilingkod bilang rehente ng unibersidad,” she said.
Barrion-Dupo finished her BS Agriculture and MS and PhD Entomology from UPLB. Her scientific productivity in the study of insects, such as bees and spiders, has allowed her to contribute to the body of knowledge and conservation of various insect species.
She stressed that her abilities to listen and to analyze would help her perform her duties and responsibilities at the BOR.
In her Plan of Action during her candidacy, Barrion-Dupo identified teaching and learning support to the faculty who are implementing remote learning as among the four initiatives that she will prioritize in pursuing her vision-mission of providing “Opportunities to further professional growth and Providing an Enabling and Nurturing environment” or OPEN.
Her vision includes a unified tenure system for the faculty members, capacity building for all teaching faculty, and faculty welfare and benefits.
Meanwhile, Renee Louise Co was selected as the 38th Student Regent during the 50th General Assembly of Student Councils.
She will serve for one year.
Co graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science from UP Diliman. She is pursuing a Juris Doctor degree from the UP College of Law.
“Magiging proactive and OSR in developing political consciousness; and to do this, we need sharp and organized campaigns, broad unities, and palawakin pa ang reach natin,” she said.
