SOUTHERN LUZON STATE U TO LAUNCH WEAVING PROJECT
THE SOUTHERN Luzon State University will launch a weaving project to trace and document the tradition of making “buri” products.
Buri products are made of palm leaves which are used to create fans, bags and hats, among others.
Dubbed “Documentation of the Art of Weaving Traditional Buri Hats and Bags by Women in Lucban, Quezon, and Reason for its Disappearance,” the project aims to document the displacement of “buri” products in markets and cultural spaces in Lucban, Quezon and nearby towns.
The university allotted P200,000 for the project as approved by the SLSU Board of Regents through Resolution No. 2023 – 194.
The project was approved by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
The funds were charged under the Program for Advancing the Value of Creative Excellence: Pagkamalikhain of SLSU.
