CAGAYAN STATE U BENCHMARKS UPLB BS NUTRITION PROGRAM

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Los Baños will help improve the BS Nutrition program of the Cagayan State University through a joint initiative in curriculum and human resource development.

Representatives from CSU-Andrews Campus’ College of Allied Health Sciences recently visited UPLB’s Institute of Human Nutrition and Food – College of Human Ecology as part of its benchmarking activities for its newly institutionalized BS Nutrition and Dietetics program.

CSU-CAHS faculty members Dr. Milagros C. Suyu, head of the nutrition and dietetics program, Ma. Krischen Austria and Regina Marie Tan met with Dr. Liezl Atienza, IHNF assistant to the director, and faculty members Paul Alteo Bagabaldo and Rodesa Forcadilla.

They discussed the BS Nutrition curriculum, equivalency crediting guidelines, course auditing, on-the-job training activities, admission and retention policies and potential collaborations.

The IHNF representatives also shared their best practices in delivering its BSN program and maintaining its outstanding performance in the board examinations.

The CSU team were also given a tour of the IHNF facilities, including its food and nutrition laboratories, utensils/equipment storage room, lecture halls, nutrition clinic and the Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement office.

Pamela Gonzales, BIDANI university research associate, presented to the CAHS-CSU team an overview of BIDANI, its research and extension activities, and how the university can be part of the BIDANI network.

The benchmarking activity was requested by CAHS Dean Dorina Sabatin to learn about the best practices of IHNF-CHE in offering the BSN program.
