PALACE ORDERS ALTERNATIVE CLASSES, WORK SETUP IN METRO MANILA, 14 PROVINCES
PUBLIC and private schools in Metro Manila and 14 provinces will shift to alternative learning modes on Tuesday, August 18, while government offices in the affected areas will adopt alternative work arrangements as heavy rains from the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, persist.
Malacañang issued Memorandum Circular 128 on Monday upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and amid heavy rainfall warnings issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The directive covers the National Capital Region and the provinces of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, and Occidental Mindoro.
Government offices in the affected areas were directed to implement “appropriate alternative work arrangements.”
Agencies providing basic, healthcare, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services, however, are required to continue operations.
Public and private schools at all levels in the covered areas will likewise implement alternative learning modes, unless otherwise directed by their respective local chief executives.
Local chief executives may also order localized class suspensions or cancellations and the suspension of government work in areas not covered by the Palace directive.
For private companies and offices, the suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements will be left to the discretion of management.
The circular, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., takes effect immediately.
