USC LAW TEAM ADVANCES TO JESSUP INT’L ROUNDS AFTER STRONG NATIONAL FINISH

/ 15 March 2026

LAW students from the University of San Carlos College of Law topped the preliminary stage and finished as semifinalists in the advanced rounds of the Philippine National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Competing against 24 law schools nationwide, the USC team also swept several major awards, including back-to-back Best Overall Memorial and Best Respondent Memorial distinctions for the quality of their written submissions.

Team captain Bri Unabia placed fourth among the competition’s best oral advocates, while Mel Joseph Castro ranked fifth, highlighting the team’s strength in courtroom-style legal argumentation.

Members of this year’s delegation include Unabia and Castro, both fourth-year law students, along with third-year students Earl Max Eata and Neil Glova Jr., and first-year members Nichole Simblante and Allen Dave Capa.

With their performance, the team earned the right to represent the Philippines in the international rounds of the competition in Washington, D.C. scheduled for April 2026.

The achievement continues a strong tradition for the University of San Carlos. Last year, the school’s law team ranked second out of 152 teams in the international preliminary rounds and received global recognition for Best Written Memorials.

The team is guided by head coach Atty. Daryl Bretch M. Largo, with assistant coaches Atty. Rashid Vedra Pandi and Atty. J. Priyanka Dalagan.
