SENATOR URGES PROTECTION OF STUDENTS FROM EXTREME HEAT DURING SUMMER BREAK

/ 21 April 2025

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian raised concerns over the health risks posed by extreme heat to school-aged children currently on their summer break, stressing the need for stronger safety measures during the vacation season.

While the school year has officially ended, Gatchalian warned that children remain vulnerable to high temperatures, particularly as many families participate in outdoor activities.

He urged close coordination among local government units, tourism establishments, and healthcare providers to ensure medical services are readily accessible for children during this period.

“While the school year has officially ended, school-aged children still face the risks posed by extreme heat,” Gatchalian said.

“This is especially crucial now, as children go on vacation with their families, where outdoor activities increase their exposure to extreme heat.”

He also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant throughout the summer months to ensure children’s safety.

“Ngayong naka-bakasyon ang mga bata, kailangang tiyakin nating magiging ligtas sila sa panahong kasama nila ang kanilang mga pamilya,” he added.

The senator’s reminder comes amid forecasts of intense heat waves in many parts of the country, prompting calls for enhanced public health and safety measures.
