SENATOR CALLS FOR STRONGER EMERGENCY RESPONSE MEASURES

/ 1 March 2025

SENATOR Christopher ‘Bong’ Go has called for stronger emergency response measures following the tragic death of a senior high school student in Marikina City who collapsed during a basketball game. He raised serious concerns about the medical preparedness of schools.

Go, Chairperson of the Senate Committees on Health, Youth, and Sports, emphasized the importance of having well-trained medical personnel and appropriate emergency protocols in place, especially during school events involving strenuous physical activity.

Shann Mikhail Estaquio, 23, a Grade 11 student of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College-Marikina, collapsed during a basketball match on February 22. The school later confirmed that Estaquio was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead at around 11:06 a.m.

Go stressed that schools must have proper medical staff and adequate facilities to handle emergencies.
