SENATOR Grace Poe filed a measure that will modernize all public schools and state colleges and universities in the country.

Under Senate Bill 871 or the proposed Public School and State University and College Modernization Act, all public schools and SUCs will be provided with 10 computers with open source software; a well-equipped library with an additional two computers; a multimedia classroom with one interactive whiteboard and one LCD projector and screen; one laptop for each teacher and internet connectivity plus a steady supply of electricity.

The measure also seeks to create a coordinating committee which will implement the act over a 20-year period.

Poe said that the national government has gradually embraced information and communications technology as a tool for good governance and inclusive growth.

However, she said ICT may still be further integrated throughout all levels of government.

The measure seeks to integrate ICT in education, specifically in the modernization of public schools and state universities and colleges in the country.
