RECOGNIZING the challenges posed by distance learning, the University of the Philippines will again implement a ‘no fail policy’ for Academic Year 2021-2022.

A memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said that no grades of ‘4 or 5’  will be given.

“Since the Covid19 pandemic has not abated, the no fail policy remains in place during the First Semester/Trimester AY 2021-2022,” the memorandum read.

“A faculty member may drop a student whose status is failing or whose performance is unsatisfactory. As stated, ‘DRP’ will be annotated in the Transcript of Records due to Covid19 pandemic”, it added.

Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose Banzon Bautista, OVPAA chief, said that the rules on retention, academic delinquency, and maximum residence will also be suspended.

There will be reading breaks, leniency in academic requirements, as well as optional attendance in synchronous classes.

The university will implement remote learning but it reiterated its request to the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Commission on Higher Education to allow graduating students to attend limited physical classes.

UP will begin the first semester of AY 2021-2022 on September 17.
