SENATOR TO TEACHERS: GET VACCINATED VS COVID19
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday called on teachers and non-teaching staff to register with their local government units to get vaccinated as the government starts inoculating those in the A4 priority list.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture said it is crucial for teachers to get jabs against Covid19 because activities like the printing and distribution of self-learning modules expose them to the risk of infection.
Basic education frontliners are included in the A4 priority list, as well as frontline personnel in essential sectors.
“Ngayong binuksan na ang Covid19 vaccination program para sa A4 priority list, nananawagan ako sa ating mga guro, pati na rin sa ating mga non-teaching personnel na magparehistro at magpabakuna. Ang pagpapabakuna ay hindi lamang proteksiyon para sa atin, kundi proteksiyon din para sa ating mga pamilya at mga komunidad,” Gatchalian said.
The senator pointed out that parents and students will have more confidence to participate in face-to-face classes if teachers and other school personnel are vaccinated.
Gatchalian previously called for the prioritization of teachers in the government’s Covid19 vaccination program.
The Senate Adopted Resolution No. 92, which Gatchalian co-authored and sponsored, calling for the prioritization of teachers in the vaccination program to mitigate the risk of adult-to-adult transmission of the coronavirus in schools.
