LA SALLE MAKES QUICK WORK OF ADAMSON TO GO 2-0
De La Salle University (DLSU) quickly dispatched Adamson University (ADU), 25-21, 25-20, 25-14, to stay unbeaten in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, May 7.
Veteran Jolina dela Cruz paced the Lady Spikers with 12 points off 12 attacks on top of 11 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions to lead La Salle to a 2-0 standing.
Rookie Alleiah Malaluan finished with 12 markers while the middle duo of Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma added nine and eight, respectively.
“Nung umpisa ganoon pa rin, medyo mabagal pa rin ang simula pero Adamson also showed kung ano yung magagawa nila sa offense so nacha-challenge rin talaga even the blocking,” said assistant coach Benson Bocboc.
“Siguro the latter part, siguro nainip na sila, nilakasan na nila yung palo nila so nakakapwesto na kami sa blocking. Pero nung una medyo nangangapa pa rin talaga,” he continued.
After a tight first set, the Lady Spikers racked on a 6-1 rally to finish off the Lady Falcons in the second canto and take a 2-0 advantage.
With just a three points lead off a technical timeout in the third set, 16-13, the Lady Spikers shifted to high gear after a 9-1 run to wrap up the match.
May Anne Nuique and Lucille Almonte scored 12 points each in the loss, which dropped Adamson to the bottom of the standings together with Ateneo.
La Salle looks to extend its winning streak as it faces fellow unbeaten squad NU next on Tuesday, May 10 at 4:00 PM while Adamson heads up against fellow winless squad Ateneo later that day at 6:00 PM.
