REBISCO OUT OF SEMIS AFTER MATCH AGAINST QATAR’S AL-RABI
Rebisco out of semis hope in the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship after a winless set against Qatar's Al-Arabi Sports Club, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19.
The Filipino ace Jao Umandal powered the Rebisco with his 17 points built on 15 kills, one ace, and a block for the men’s national team.
Even without the power players Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo, Umandal tried to fill the gap and as the primary offensive force of the squad by trying to be at par with Qatar during the 1st set 23-18. He registered back-row attacks but not enough to stop the Al-Rabi team.
The Filipinos made an attempt to make up for the first lost 1st set and rode the hot waxed Qatar team closing the score of 15-12, but Al-Rabi boosted above and left the Philippines unfazed with a 10 gap, 25-15.
Al-Rabi was unstoppable during the last set as they gunned a six-point deficit early at the start of the set 8-2. The PH team tried to close the gap but could not keep the pace, ending the set with a score of 25-19.
Felipe Bandero, on the other hand, scored 21 points to lead Al-Arabi to their second consecutive victory.
Nevertheless, Rebisco will attempt to pull it off by winning the preliminary round against Thailand’s Diamond Food today at 4:30 (Manila Time)
If Rebisco loses against the Thais, they will match for the classification round for the ninth and tenth place.
