GILAS WOMEN’S KHATE CASTILLO TOPS WNBL DRAFT COMBINE ON FINAL DAY
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) Draft Combine concluded its Draft Combine on Sunday with Gilas Pilipinas Women's Khate Castillo leading the 54 aspirants that have attended at Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
Alongside the Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Castillo is UAAP finals MVP Monique Del Carmen that has taken lead during the draft combine. In addition, former UP guard Fille Claudine Cainglet was also present.
The combine was a pre-draft activity of the league that will give the teams a closer look at the Filipina ballers that aspired to play at the first season of WNBL after turning pro.
Applicants underwent biometrics, agility, and body composition testing in preparation for the draft set this month.
A total of 115 have shown their talents in the combine with 64 centers and forwards attending on the first day.
Mariel Campasa, Krista Mae Bongon, Klarisse Bascon, Loraine Jastine Capilit, Cherylane Cuyom, Nicole Delos Reyes, Ma. Ferlynn Decapia, Regina Dela Merced, Jean Liezl Delos Reyes, Katrina Rose Domino, Marika Daphne Esplana, Micah Joy Figuracion, Nicole Anne Garcia, Marie Elisa Gepilano and Franchesca Gomendoza were present on the combine on Sunday.
Also participated in the pre-draft procedure were Fionna Mikee Gonato, Ericka Mae Hortaleza, Ayra Nil Hufanda, Anna Marika Iida, Christine Iriss Isip, Denyse Mariel Jimenez, Mary Rose Labrador, Shanna Mae Latoza, Danice Ysai Llosala, Sunny Gen Lucanas, Krystine Timtim, Leodine Mari Madrid, Nicole Mendina, Julie Ann Montilla, Junila Rose Petilla, Lourdes Pocalian, Jinnelle Ponce, and Quenee Roan Ragual.
Camille Ramos, Karen Anne Salapong, Vanessa Santos, Ma. Katrina Servillon, Ma. Princess Ray Sulit, Jacqueline Tanaman, Irene Torregosa, Ma. Michaela Bianca Sunga, Krizanne Claudine Ty, Jade Valenzuela, Eliezza Dianne Ventura, Loraine Ventura, Francesca Isabel Young, Jaimee Mari Chan, Hazelle Irysh Habon, Mary Krista Joanne Roberto, Cheng Garcera, and Loraine Gonzalo rounding out the list that attended the final day.
In compliance with the health protocols, all players and league staff underwent antigen testing before entering the area supported by Victoria Sports, Chris Sports, Phenom, Tanita, Chooks-to-Go, Uling Roasters, and GIG Sportswear.
The country’s premier women’s hoops league is targeting the first quarter of 2021 to open its first season as a pro league.
