YOUTH GROUP SEEKS RELEASE OF LUMAD SCHOOL TEACHER
THE COLLEGE Editors Guild of the Philippines called for the release of Lumad school teacher Chad Booc who was arrested by the police in February this year.
The CEGP said that the continuous detention of members of indigenous communities “only adds up to the already worse plight” of marginalized and oppressed sectors.
“Thus, the Guild remains firm that they should be freed in no time,” the group added.
Booc was arrested when members of the Police Regional Office 7 conducted an operation in the Talamban campus of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City to “rescue” Lumad children.
The CEGP urged progressive organizations, publications, and individuals to continue to demand freedom and educational rights.
“In a time where we are all far from our usual classes and challenged by the new normal set-up, education is and would always be a right for everyone,” it said.
