DAVAO CITY SUSPENDS F2F CLASSES ON JANUARY 13 DUE TO NATIONAL RALLY FOR PEACE

/ 11 January 2025

FACE-TO-FACE classes at all levels in Davao City will be suspended on January 13 due to the National Rally for Peace organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo.

This was announced by the city government through Proclamation No. 1, Series of 2025, which also mandates a skeletal workforce in all national and local offices, including government-owned and -controlled corporations.

The suspension aims to maintain public order, safety, and convenience, as 10 significant streets in the Central Business District will be temporarily closed during the rally at Rizal Park.

On January 7, the Davao City Council passed Resolution No. 04022-25, requesting Mayor Sebastian Duterte to implement a skeletal workforce arrangement to help ease traffic.

Around 500,000 INC members from Regions 11, 12, and Bukidnon are expected to attend the rally, although the city government has requested INC to reduce the number to 300,000 to help accommodate participants.

The city government emphasized the need to ensure residents’ and visitors’ safety and to take measures to prevent untoward incidents during the event.

Public Safety and Security Office head Angel Sumagaysay stated that the suspension of classes and work would help manage traffic and minimize inconvenience for those working or studying near the event areas. It would also allow security personnel to focus on protecting the rally participants.
