SENATOR URGES K TO 12 REVIEW

/ 19 July 2022

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday highlighted the growing dissatisfaction on the K to 12 system and pushed for an immediate review of the program.

Gatchalian cited a Pulse Asia survey conducted on June 24-27 that revealed that 44 percent of 1,200 adult respondents were dissatisfied with the K to 12.

This is 16 percentage points higher than the results of a survey conducted in September 2019. In that poll, only 28 percent of respondents were dissatisfied with the program.

“Malinaw sa boses ng ating mga kababayan na hindi sila kuntento sa programa ng K to 12. Ito ay dahil hindi natutupad ang mga pangako nito at naging dagdag na pasanin lamang ito sa ating mga magulang at mga mag-aaral,” Gatchalian said.

The senator filed Senate Resolution No. 5 that seeks a Senate inquiry on the status of the implementation of the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 or the K to 12 Law – exactly 10 years from the time the program was implemented.

The proposed review of the program is one of Gatchalian’s priority measures for the 19th Congress.

The lawmaker also commissioned a Pulse Asia survey in December 2019 which revealed that additional financial burden was the top reason for dissatisfaction at 78 percent.

“Dapat nating suriin nang husto ang pagpapatupad ng K to 12 upang matiyak na natutupad nito ang layuning makapaghatid ng dekalidad na edukasyon at isulong ang pagiging competitive ng ating mga kabataan,” the senator said.
