SENATOR Imee Marcos sees no reason to amend the Constitution, specifically the provision on allowing foreign investors to invest in our educational institutions.

Marcos’ belief is on contrast to the statement of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri saying there is a need to amend the economic provision of the Constitution pertaining to the investment on education.

Zubiri filed a resolution proposing amendments to economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, particularly on Articles 12, 14 and 16.

Article 12 tackles the country’s National Economy and Patrimony while Article 14 is about Education, Science and Technology, Arts, Culture and Sports and Article 16 deals with General Provisions.

Marcos explained there are now foreign investors in our educational institutions.

“‘Yung edukasyon naman, napakarami na nating International Schools, sangkatutak na culinary na kung tutuusin wala namang Pilipino na nagtuturo o nagmamay-ari,” Marcos said in an interview with the Senate media.

“Nagagawan naman ng paraan ang dami nang International School, pati culinary at specialist school puro foreigner may-ari at teachers. Wala naman masama doon kasi kailangan natin matutunan lahat yun pero bakit papalitan pa sa 100 percent,” she added, referring to the proposed amendment to allow full foreign ownership.
