EDUCATION Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio believes that by adopting the Basic Education Development Plan 2030 of the previous administration, the government will be able to address the impacts of the pandemic on learning.

She highlighted the four pillars of the Basic Education Program — access, equity, quality and governance.

“BEDP 2030 is designed to address the immediate impacts of the pandemic on learning participation and education delivery, address the remaining access gaps, improve education quality and build resilience,” Duterte said in a video message to mark DepEd’s First 100 days.

In line with its aim to improve the quality of education, the new administration was able to “sustain the review of the K to Grade 10 program from the previous administration and is set to start reviews for Grades 11 and 12,” she added.

Duterte-Carpio said that the Marcos administration is also focusing on the welfare of teachers. She disclosed that the Department of Budget and Management allowed the creation of 5,000 administrative personnel positions for 2023.

Also, the government gave assurances that teachers will receive the final tranche of their salary increase in 2023 as provided for in Republic Act 11466.

“The DepEd, under the leadership of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. is committed to the goal for all Filipinos to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to a cohesive nation through the protection and promotion of the right to education,” Duterte said.
