16 March 2025

Quezon City First District Representative Arjo Atayde urged the employers to adopt a flexible work arrangements amid soaring temperatures.

Atayde said that employee productivity will increase when their safety and well-being are prioritized, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

“Employers should implement flexible work week and  consider the welfare of their employees especially now that the country is experiencing high heat index,” the lawmaker said.

“Having a flexible workweek can help alleviate the strain on employees caused by commuting in such intense heat.”

Previously, some local government units and schools have suspended face-to-face classes due to high heat index.

According to the weather state bureau, when the temperature ranges 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius, it is considered as “danger.” Prolonged exposure to such conditions can lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke.

Additionally, Atayde urged employers to ensure proper ventilation in the workplace to protect employees from the dangers of extreme heat. (END)
