THE Philippine Coast Guard delivered a lecture to the students of Quezon City Polytechnic University on defending the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Jay Tarriela, engaged students and faculty in an insightful discussion on maritime security, sovereignty, and the challenges facing the WPS.

He emphasized the crucial role of international law, particularly UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award, in strengthening the Philippines’ sovereign rights.

Tarriela also highlighted the PCG’s efforts in safeguarding Filipino fisherfolk and maintaining maritime security.

Moreover, he underscored the critical role of young Filipinos in defending the nation’s maritime interests and officially encouraged the students to stay informed and advocate for the country’s sovereignty.
