LAWMAKER: NO ROOM FOR ABUSE, LAWLESSNESS AT PNPA

/ 24 April 2026

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian has stressed that there should be no tolerance for abuse and lawlessness within the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), following the filing of charges against seven cadets over alleged violations of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.

Gatchalian said the development is a crucial step toward ensuring justice and accountability, stressing that violence and abuse have no place—especially in an institution tasked with training future law enforcers.

“We should no longer condone or give space to this kind of abuse and violence, particularly when it occurs in an institution expected to instill discipline, integrity, and respect for the law,” he said.

The senator also urged PNPA officials to conduct a comprehensive review of existing policies to ensure the strict enforcement of anti-hazing rules and to eliminate any entrenched culture that may enable abusive practices.

Gatchalian expressed solidarity with cadets who were allegedly subjected to hazing, underscoring the need to uphold victims’ rights and ensure accountability within the academy.

The Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 strictly prohibits all forms of hazing and imposes severe penalties on violators, as part of government efforts to eliminate violence in fraternities, organizations, and training institutions nationwide.
