UPV’s ALGAL PASTE RECEIVES DOST SCIENCE FOR THE PEOPLE AWARD
A MICROALGAE paste developed by the University of the Philippines College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences claimed the Science for the People award given by the Department of Science and Technology earlier this week.
The paste, named Juan Algal Paste, was recognized for its outstanding contribution in advancing Science, Technology and Innovation in the country for the sustained economic progress of the Filipino people.
According to UPV, the algal paste is an innovative and cost-effective steady supply of natural feed in hatcheries that Soledad Garibay, a researcher from the Institute of Aquaculture, developed from different algal species.
Garibay, chief executive officer of Algacon Aquafeeds Manufacturing, accepted the award from DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña during Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat on June 13.
Garibay expressed her gratitude to all those who supported their technology.
“Thank you, Lord, for this great blessing. Juan Algae is truly for the Filipino people,” Garibay stated.
Juan Algae is now available in the market.
The Science for the People Award recognizes the valuable contribution of DOST’s partners from various sectors in the advancement of science, technology, and innovation in the country.
