AN ALUMNA of the University of the East was named as the Distinguished Service Awardee of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia in Canada.

The CPABC Distinguished Service Awards recognizes CPABC members who have been actively involved in activities as volunteers for their dedication, commitment and outstanding contributions to the practice of public accountancy.

Thelma Siglos, a certified public accountant, was recognized for her  remarkable commitment and dedication to the accounting profession and her community.

“The Davao City-born Ms. Siglos, the sixth of 13 children, is a 1972 Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Accounting graduate, Magna Cum Laude, of the UE College of Business Administration-Manila,” UE said.

“Moving to Canada in 1981, Ms. Siglos eventually went on to work as a financial integrity consultant, specializing in forensic accounting investigations, since 2014, after she retired from a full career as a manager of financial integrity with the British Columbia Public Service Agency,” it added.

Siglos is a  dedicated volunteer who contributed to the accounting profession’s mandate to protect public interest.

She was a member of her provincial legacy body’s Professional Conduct Enquiry Committee from 2005 to 2010, which she chaired from 2009-2010, and of its Rulings Committee which she also chaired from 2008 to 2009.

Siglos helped strengthen the profession within the Filipino Canadian community through her work with the Association of Filipino Canadian Accountants of British Columbia.

In 2008, she acted as that association’s founding president and director and continues to support the association as a mentor.

Currently, Siglos is a director and treasurer of the Jesuit Spirituality Apostolate of Vancouver and lends her expertise to the legal community as a panel adjudicator for the Law Society of British Columbia.
