/ 1 June 2023

THE CENTRAL Luzon State University signed a partnership agreement with the Good Neighbors International Philippines and the local government unit of San Clemente, Tarlac to promote sustainable farming.

A memorandum of agreement was signed by officials of CLSU, GNIP and San Clemente municipality last week.

The collaboration seeks to extend research assistance on sustainable farming through the College of Science-Institute for Climate Change and Environmental Management, Ramon Magsaysay-Center for Agricultural Resources and Environment Studies and Center for Renewable Energy.

Under the partnership, the Pit-ao Farmer Association of San Clemente, Tarlac will implement the project “Strengthening Climate Resilience of Agricultural Community through Organic Composting.”

It aims to build a solar-powered composting facility that will promote a sustainable economic ecosystem in the community.

The RM-CARES will guide the association by conducting training on organic compost, while the CREate will extend its assistance in setting up the solar panels.

CLSU University President Edgar Orden said that the school is always committed to be a partner in uplifting the lives of farmers.

“Mawawalan ng saysay ang lahat ng ito, the research and technologies kung hindi makakarating sa inyo…because this is the vision of CLSU, to create an impact to the community,” Orden said.

Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ravelina Velasco supported the initiative that “will utilize the ability of CLSU’s experts for the advancement of Filipino farmers.”

On the other hand, GNIP director Jae Choon Lee thanked the San Clemente LGU and CLSU for backing up their goal “to empower people and transform communities.”
