CAYETANO URGES YOUTH TO FIND THEIR VIP: VISION, IDENTITY AND PURPOSE
SENATE Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano challenged young Filipinos to break free from social expectations and discover their true identity and purpose in life.
Speaking before thousands of young participants at the Christian Bishops and Ministers Association of the Philippines (CBMAP) Youth Conference on October 3, Cayetano urged the youth to embrace what he called the VIP framework—Vision, Identity, and Purpose.
Cayetano cautioned young people against measuring their self-worth through social media popularity, career titles, academic performance, wealth, and other external standards.
He stressed that a person’s job or achievements should not define who they are, saying their fundamental worth should instead be anchored in faith.
On vision, Cayetano encouraged the youth to seek direction and reflect on their purpose in life, saying a clear vision can help counter feelings of hopelessness and uncertainty.
On identity, he reminded participants that their worth should not be determined by grades, wealth, popularity, or social media influence.
He also emphasized purpose, saying it can help young people stay focused amid temptations, confusion, deception, peer pressure, and competing ambitions.
In an interview after his speech, Cayetano expressed concern over reports of young people losing hope despite having much of their lives ahead of them.
He said young Filipinos can continue to look forward to a better future despite challenges such as poverty, illness, and other personal difficulties.
Cayetano also called for more gatherings where young people can strengthen their faith, find meaning in their lives, and build stronger communities.
He said there is hope for the youth and stressed the importance of bringing them together to build a stronger sense of community, as they represent the country’s future.
