/ 29 September 2022

A STUDENT from the Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory High School in Batac won the top prize in the Human Asia’s 6th Human Rights Essay Competition.

John Lynyrd Ganitano, a Grade 10 student,
bested other participants from other Asian countries.

The competition, with the theme “Climate Crisis and Human Rights,” was open for Asian youth 13-18 years old who are interested in expressing their creative insights into how to revive, strengthen and extend human rights in Asia.

Ganitano received one million Korean Won (about P41,000) during the awarding ceremony held online on September 23.

He dedicated the award to MMSU “and to the entire Philippines which he represented.”

Ganitano was mentored by Professor Rosalie Bacister and LHS Batac head teacher Mignon Cecilia Diego.

MMSU President Shirley Agrupis congratulated Ganitano for his achievement.

“This proves that the university truly hones exceptional students who showcase MMSU’s brand of academic excellence not only in the country but also in the international arena,” Agrupis said.
