MUNTINLUPA SCHOOL HEADS GIVEN POWER TO SUSPEND FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES AMID SUPER EL NIÑO

/ 4 November 2026

MUNTINLUPA City Mayor Ruffy Biazon has announced that school heads in the city will be authorized to suspend face-to-face (F2F) classes based on prevailing conditions in their respective schools, following an agreement between the city government and the Department of Education (DepEd).

The arrangement comes amid concerns over the possible effects of Super El Niño, which could bring extreme heat and other weather-related challenges affecting learners and school personnel.

Under the agreement, school heads will have the discretion to determine whether in-person classes should be suspended, based on their assessment of conditions within their campuses and in accordance with DepEd guidelines.

Biazon explained that schools face different circumstances, making it more practical to allow school heads to assess their respective situations and decide on the appropriate course of action.

The mayor also urged parents and learners to coordinate with their respective parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and regularly monitor official school communication channels for announcements regarding class suspensions.

The measure is intended to allow schools to respond more promptly to localized conditions while prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of students and school personnel.
