UNIVERSITY OF MINDANAO UNVEILS 1ST NANO-TECH CENTER IN THE REGION
THE UNIVERSITY of Mindanao unveiled the first nanotechnology center in the region, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development.
DOST said that the Center of Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions was established to highlight green approaches to developing nanomaterials.
It will also develop technological solutions for environmental problems.
The development of nanotechnology aims to promote green innovations and provide technological advancements in the Davao region and the whole of Mindanao.
One of the initial projects that the center has been working on is the conversion of waste into nanoparticles to generate renewable energy through nanogenerators.
“We anticipate that UM, together with DOST, will play a key role in promoting green innovations in Mindanao and providing technological advancements that care for the environment and humanity,” DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony Sales said.
The project was funded under DOST’s Infrastructure Development Program. The PCIEERD alloted a P200 million budget for the centers across the country.
