THE DEPARTMENT of Education has acknowledged everything cannot be a hundred percent prepared for the opening of classes.

“Intindihin po natin kung mayroon po tayong mga flaws or mayroon pong kakulangan ngayon, ito po ay ini-expect natin. We are not expecting for a perfect implementation and we are not expecting 100 percent readiness, but we are doing our best to adjust,” DepEd spokesperson Annalyn Sevilla said in an interview.

Usec. Sevilla also reiterated that learners are not obliged to go online by August 24.

“Hindi po kailangan na immediately sa Agosto 24 ay naka-online agad ang mga estudyante. Ito po ay gagawin lamang sa mga LGU na may capacity to do it,” Sevilla added.

Several local government units in the National Capital Region have committed to doing online classes. The DepEd also asked for the full cooperation of parents with whom the department is conducting orientations.

Under the new normal, Sevilla stressed that quality education will be more challenging to attain.

“Kailangan nating mag-adjust for this, pero not to sacrifice the quality,” she stressed.

As of July 27, some 22.1 million students are enrolled in private and public schools which is 79.59 percent of the targeted 80 percent enrollees for the school year 2019-2020.

It will be noted that about 390,000 students from private schools have since transferred to public schools.

“Vouchers or the subsidy of the government to public school students transferring from private schools are still ongoing,” Sevilla said.
