MAGNOLIA INKS NEW TWO-YEAR DEAL WITH JACKSON CORPUZ FOR 2021 PBA GOVERNORS CUP
Blue-collar forward Jackson Corpuz has been signed to a new two-year deal by Magnolia Hotshots ahead of its debut in the 2021 PBA Governors Cup.
Corpuz was renewed to a two-year agreement, although the terms, as usual, weren’t made public,
The 6-foot-4 Corpuz was joined in the contract signing by Magnolia team manager Alvin Patrimonio and PJ Pilares of TMG.
The contract renewal was held in preparations for the Hotshots in their opening game in the import-laden conference this Wednesday against Terrafirma, the former team of Corpuz.
The Hotshots acquired the 32-year-old bruiser from Terrafirma two years ago in exchange for big man Aldrech Ramos.
News then came out, mentioning Corpuz as part of a supposed package bid to acquire Greg Slaughter.
The power forward from Ilagan, Isabela played his first finals appearance during the last Philippine Cup bubble in Bacolor, Pampanga where the TNT Tropang Giga was hailed as champions, winning five of its games against the Hotshots.
Corpuz created a controversy in the championship series after his bump on Troy Rosario while in mid-air, causing the latter to fall badly on the floor in Game 3.
The incident made Corpuz ejected after incurring a technical foul earlier.
Eventually, the Magnolia forward was slapped with a P20,000 fine by the PBA after upgrading the flagrant foul penalty 1 meted out on Corpuz to penalty 2 after further review.
Moments after the Tropang Giga clinched the championship in Game 5, Corpuz was seen approaching Rosario on the bench to shake his hand.
