THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines College of Law has partnered with UP Visayas to make quality legal education more accessible in the Visayas region.

For the first time, the UP College of Law will hold extension classes in UP Iloilo City this academic year.

UP Law offers Juris Doctor in UP Diliman and UP Bonifacio Global City.

“The pioneer batch of twenty JD freshmen for UP Iloilo includes six graduates from UP Visayas, including the UP Tacloban City campus, two graduates each from UP Cebu and UP Mindanao, and graduates from the Mindanao State University and the Central Mindanao University,” UP Visayas said in a statement.

“The pioneer batch also includes students from Iloilo, Aklan, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, and Davao,” it added.

UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano said the opening of extension classes of the UP College of Law in Iloilo is an affirmation of the school’s commitment to lead in the field of legal education.

“It is also a demonstration of our resolve to embrace the possibilities offered by digital technology and remote learning. This is an important step towards realizing the university of the future,” Camposano said.

The pioneer batch of faculty members for the UP College of Law extension classes in Iloilo is led by retired Supreme Court Justice Francis Jardeleza. He will teach constitutional law.

Professor Elizabeth Aguiling-Pangalangan, an expert in family law and private international law, will teach family law.

Assistant Professor Theodore Te, director of the UP College of Law, will handle the criminal law classes, while Assistant Professor Andre Palacios will share his expertise on Legal History.

The other faculty members are Fina Bernadette De la Cuesta-Tantuico for Legal Bibliography, and Jose Maria Marella for Legal Method.
