BALIPURE ENDS 5-GAME LOSING SKID OVER PERLAS TO FINISH PVL CAMPAIGN ON A POSITIVE NOTE
Balipure Water Defenders concluded their 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference campaign with a high note as they stunned Perlas Spiker, 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 26-24, on Saturday afternoon at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra.
A strong finish for the Water Defenders as they ended their PVL stint with a win over the Spikers to snap its five-game losing streak and tie with the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters at the eighth spot with a 3-6 slate.
“Yun naman sinabi naming sa players naming since wala na tayo pag asa sa final 4 might as well do our best and finish the season strong,” BaliPure head coach Rommel Abella averred.
“Na-satisfy naman ako kaya lang nakulangan ako sa mga talo namin kasi we’re almost there, hindi lang kami maka get over the hump,” he added.
Perlas came with a close victory in the first salvo, but the Water Defenders bounced back with a win in the following set to tie the match, 1-1.
Balipure put everything they’ve got in the remaining sets, capped off by Bern Flora unleashing a cross-court hit to lock the scores at 24-all in the fourth set, and then ended the match with two consecutive hits.
Graze Bombita led Balipure with a game-high 19 points off 14 attacks and five booming aces in the win, followed by Flora who ended with 13 points and 12 excellent receptions
Middle blockers Sati Espiritu and Gen Casugod contributed with 12 and 10 points respectively, while Alina Bicar manned the offense with 24 excellent sets laced with 17 excellent digs and three points.
On the other hand, Sue Roces top-scored Perlas with 13 points while Chery Nunag chipped in 10 markers.
Jellie Tempiatura tallied 18 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions while setter Gel Cayuna finished with 34 excellent sets along with 10 digs.
The Perlas Spikers bids farewell to its PVL Open Conference season with a 1-8 slate.
