YEAR 4 OF PISTA NG PELIKULANG PILIPINO IS SET TO OPEN ONLINE THIS MONTH, WITH A COLLECTIVE CALL OF “SAMA ALL!”

As the flagship program of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, PPP 2020 announces a selection of 100 local movies from some of the country's most prestigious film festivals, with full proceeds going to the participating production companies.

In light of the current pandemic and cinemas nationwide remaining closed and inoperable, the Film Development Council of the Philippines has revealed that the fourth edition of the much-anticipated Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) will be held purely online on October 31-November 15.

For years, PPP has launched local films in the international stage as entries to the Academy Awards Best Foreign Language category with titles like Birdshot by Mikhail Red in 2017, Signal Rock by Chito Roño in 2018, and Verdict by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez in 2019. Which is why the festival lineup is always one that Filipinos eagerly anticipate, more so now with the needed support for production companies and filmmakers across the country.

PPP also launched the Sine Kabataan competition back in 2017, supporting short films by 18 to 30-year old filmmakers. The program has been known to put the spotlight on themes and issues faced by the youth today such as family values, education, health, and more.

This year’s festival also coincides with the concluding celebrations of Philippine Cinemas’ 100 years, pushing FDCP more to showcase the diversity and richness of the local film industry. With this, FDCP Chair Liza Diño proudly announced the festival’s 14 sections: Premium, Classics, Documentary, Romance, Youth and Family, Genre, from the Regions, PH Oscars Entries, PPP Retro, Bahaghari, and Tributes, along with Sine Kabataan and CineMarya.

Films and events will be housed in an exclusive FDCP-sponsored platform (FDCPchannel.ph) on the festival dates, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to participating producers.
