UE EARNS FIRST WIN OF THE UAAP SEASON 84, ENDS 17-GAME SKID
University of the East (UE) finally ended a 17-game losing streak after capturing its first victory over Far Eastern University (FEU), 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, Thursday in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena.
It was a season-end breakthrough for UE as the team finished the UAAP season 84 with their head held high for its first win in 17 matches.
Still, it was a hard-fought battle for UE as FEU tied the set score to 1-1 after Von Aleina Dimaculangan of the Red Warriors failed to control her set, and gave the set score to FEU.
UE kept FEU’s score at 21 on the succeeding sets and took advantage of the continuous errors from the latter as the Morayta-based squad delivered a service error in the third frame and gave the set score to UE.
Dara Nieva paved the way to UE in the fourth and last frame with two consecutive hits and gave the match point to the Red Warriors, and even though FEU answered back with Chenie Tagaod’s backrow hit and a Shiela Kiseo’s ace, it was not enough as Ja Lana ended the match with a kill.
Lana paced UE with 21 points, all from attacks, while Nieva had 21 markers, off 20 kills and 14 excellent receptions.
Tagaod led the Lady Tamaraws with 23 points, Jovelyn Fernandez added 13 points, and Kiseo added 10 points in the loss as UE and FEU finished their campaigns knotted at 1-13.
