CHILD ONLINE SAFETY TOPS SENATE PLENARY AGENDA
MEASURES aimed at strengthening protections for Filipino children advanced in the Senate, with lawmakers moving forward with legislation addressing online sexual abuse, exploitation, and emerging digital threats.
The Senate ratified the conference committee report on the “Batang Ligtas Bill,” which seeks to strengthen safeguards against the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, as well as related abusive materials.
Meanwhile, Senate Bill No. 2424, or the proposed Child Online Safety and Protection Act, was approved on second reading following extensive debates among senators.
The discussions focused on the growing impact of social media and generative artificial intelligence on children and young people, including the need for stronger safeguards on digital platforms.
The measures form part of the Senate’s legislative efforts to strengthen protections for children against emerging online threats while addressing broader concerns related to national development.
