The National University (NU) claimed their ninth straight victory as they secured a final four spot after defeating Ateneo in a four-set match, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18, on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs stayed undefeated with a 9-0 slate as the team asserted dominance over the defending champions Lady Blue Eagles who sunk to 4-5.

Ateneo took advantage of NU’s slow start in the first frame and had the upper hand to take the first set score 1-0.

But the gutsy NU was determined not to stain their spotless record and easily went on to crush Ateneo in the succeeding sets.

Michaela Belen who scored 19 points from 17 attacks and two blocks delivered back-to-back attacks for a 20-16 lead in the third frame and even though Ateneo showcased a good court offense, 18-24, it was not enough to shatter NU’s defense and took a set score 2-1.

As the teams entered the fourth and last frame, NU cruised to an easy 4-1 advantage and despite a temporary power fluctuation due to inclement weather, the Lady Bulldogs were unstoppable to take 10-2 with the match’s resumption.

Cess Robles and Ivy Lacsina who chipped in 16 markers and eight points respectively, joined together to power for a 16-9 advantage until NU never looked back.

Alyssa Solomon scored 14 points, and Lams Lamina had four markers and 22 excellent sets.

Vanie Gandler led Ateneo with 19 points from 17 hits and two blocks, while Faith Nisperos had 11 markers in the loss.
