LYCEUM STORMS BACK TO BEAT JRU FOR FIRST WIN
The Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) notched their first win in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 97 after outlasting Jose Rizal University (JRU), 82-75, on Wednesday at La Salle Greenhills Gym.
Enoch Valdez was the main man for the Pirates finishing with a double-double performance of 21 points and 12 rebounds along with five steals.
The Heavy Bombers had a strong start ending the first quarter with a 12-point cushion, 12-24, however, the Pirates tried to come back in the second period to secure the halftime advantage.
It was a deadlock for both teams at the end of the third-quarter blitz after JRU overcame the 53-45 lead of Lyceum.
For the final quarter, JRU took the lead, 72-73, after a layup from JL Delos Santos with two minutes left in the payoff period.
Lyceum stormed back with a 10-2 run, eight of the baskets from Valdez, to end the match and claim their first victory after four games.
Rookie McLaude Guadana had season-high 14 points, and Yancy Remulla also put up a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Jason Celis led the Heavy Bombers with 24 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Delos Santos had 14 points, six boards, five dimes, and a steal as JRU dropped to 0-4.
