The lawmakers approved in 2nd reading House Bill 5455 or the proposed Masbate Academy of Sports for High School Students Act.

Based on the measure, the Masbate Sports Academy will be administered by the Department of Education (DepEd), in coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), for policy and program formulation and implementation.

The Masbate Sports Academy shall offer secondary education purposely to develop the athletic skills and talents of high school students with considerable potential in sports.

The school curriculum shall place significant emphasis on developing the athletic skills of the students through subjects pertaining to physical education and sports.

Once enacted into law, the amount necessary for the effective implementation of the act shall be included in the DepEd’s budget in the General Appropriations Act.
