“Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo has officially announced the appointment of Coach Goldwyn Monteverde as the new UP Men’s basketball Head coach,” the statement read released by UP College Of Human Kinetics yesterday.

Chancellor Nemenzo, former UP Men’s Basketball Team Program Director, stated that a thorough search for the new head coach was administered.

“Despite the recent pandemic measures, we have continued with our consultations with the UP community, stakeholders, and supporters of the UP Men’s Basketball Team,” wrote Nemenzo in a statement.

“We also conducted interviews of the applicants as part of the vetting process for the selection of our UPMBT head coach.”

Goldwyn led the NU-Nazareth School in the UAAP Juniors division to two championships and was briefly the coach of the NU Bulldogs seniors team last year. Now, Monteverde is expected to solidify the Diliman-squad after Perasol’s stint in leading the UP to the finals in Season 81 and finished in Final 4 in Season 82.

The multi-decorated mentor will be reunited with some of his former players like Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, and Terrence Fortea as well as to sharpen the several blue-chip players — Malick Diouf, Bismarck Lina, Joel Cagulangan, Anton Eusebio, CJ Cansino, Cyrtil Gonzales, RC Calimag, Miguel Tan, and Jancork Cabahug.
