SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang bared during the formal opening of the new Balayan municipal building and government complex to build sports facility lines are aligned with the local government’s post-pandemic recovery program.

“With a growing majority of Filipinos getting protected against COVID-19 through vaccination, there should be greater emphasis on health and fitness for the public in the coming years,” SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang said in an emailed statement on Monday.

“Through this sports center, which will be part of our company’s overall support for sports development, we hope to get more Balayan residents involved in sports,” he continued.

SMC has not yet announced the details of the P50-million facility’s construction including its timeline and projected date of completion.

A number of prominent athletes came from Batangas such as Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings’ LA Tenorio from Nasugbu, and former Ateneo volleyball star Alyssa Valdez from San Juan.

SMC recently finished the construction of the SMC Sports Complex in Pasig, designed for the company and its professional basketball teams such as San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings, and Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok.

The SMC Sports Complex, a total of 5,013 square meters, has three air-conditioned main basketball courts and is currently used for SMC’s COVID-19 employee vaccination activities.
