RHENZ ABANDO COMMITS TO SAN JUAN KNIGHTS

Former University of Santo Tomas (UST) standout Rhenz Abando will be bringing his act to FilBasket as he will play for San Juan Knights, the league announced.

/ 11 October 2021

Abando was tapped by Colegio de San Juan de Letran but never got to don the college jersey because basketball tournaments for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 6-foot-2 forward last played for UST Growling Tigers in University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 82 where he emerged as the team’s second-leading scorer.

He posted 11.7 points on 29-percent shooting from deep, along with 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the UST’s Cinderella season.

The inaugural season of Filbasket will take place in the first week of October in a bubble at the Splendido Taal Country Club in Batangas and will run for a month.

San Juan Knights along with the MPBL Lakan Season champions Davao Occidental Tigers, Pasig Sta. Lucia Realtors, 7A Primus, EOG Sports Burlington, FSD Makati Army, Muntinlupa Defenders, MJAS Zenith, M Trans Buracai De Laiya Batangas City, a team from Nueva Ecija, and a team from Basilan will see action for the upstart league.
